Organizations

Welcome to our growing youth network. This list is provided as a resource for those looking to connect, find other like-minded people or groups in their area, find support and guidance, or simply get a feel for what is out there in the way of youth resources. The list is organized into eleven broad categories for ease of use. Many organizations deal with wide spectrum of issues and are difficult to pin down as belonging solely to one category. While this is great for the world, it presents a bit of an organizational challenge. We've used our best judgment, but certainly don't mean to fence anyone in. This is an evolving list and we encourage submissions and updates by e-mailing youth@bioneers.org.

Educator Resources

The Bioneers Conference provides new insights and practical solutions to those attending the Conference and the world beyond. Bioneers has two essential goals: environmental education and network cultivation. The information, strategies and ideas put forth at the Bioneers Conference are invaluable resources for educators and students alike. Inspiring the next generation of thinkers by infusing the energy and knowledge generated at Bioneers into the classroom is a goal that we need your help to achieve. For more information or to share a story or experience with using Bioneers in the classroom, contact educator(at)bioneers.org.

Educators are already using the material from Bioneers to present new ideas to students. For example, a college course taught at Colorado State University profiled a different Bioneer each week with a video or transcript, followed by a discussion to highlight new environmental and social solutions. A high school science class in Ithaca, NY sent several students to the 2003 Conference in Marin as class delegates. After taking careful notes and strategically ordering video and audio, they returned to their class to develop projects and lesson plans based on Bioneers for the rest of the year.

This section contains information and ideas focused on bringing Bioneers into classrooms, a list of some our favorite educator resources and a request for educator feedback in the future.

Discussion Guides

Every year at the Bioneers Conference brilliant thinkers and visionaries present insightful, educational and inspirational speeches on a wide range of topics. As part of our effort to extend these solutions beyond the conference we have created discussion guides to accompany two of our favorite speeches. These guides contain transcripts of speeches given at previous Bioneers Conferences, sets of discussion questions relating to key issues and concerns brought up within the speech and resource lists for further discovery and exploration of the various topics.

We hope that you take advantage of these discussion resources by using them in your schools, families and communities. They're a great avenue for beginning conversations and wonderful way to become familiar with the types of solutions that Bioneers is helping to disseminate.

Available Discussion Guides:

Janine Benyus: Biomimicry

Janine Benyus is the author of the groundbreaking book: "Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature." Biomimicry (from bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate) is a new science that studies nature's best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems.

Van Jones: The Crossroads

Van Jones is helping to lead a national fight for alternatives to the U.S. incarceration industry and has been a pioneer in challenging police abuse, as well as the over-incarceration of young people. He heads the San Francisco-based Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, which anchors multiple efforts to challenge the criminalization, incarceration and abuse of low-income people and people of color around the country.
