Just Us For Food Justice

One of the goals of Bioneers is to amplify and deepen the education and networking value of the Bioneers Conference. Just Us For Food Justice (JU4FJ), the youth food and farming program is made up of youth who are working on food and farming projects in their communities.

In 2006, there were youth representation from Los Angeles, Boston, Oakland, Costa Rica and Marin County. Thursday before the conference the group visited an urban food project, a farmers market and an organic farm. Thursday night the group attended a Grub Party that they helped design and prepare food for; with chef, and youth activist Bryant Terry. Bryant is the author of the book Grub: Ideas for an Organic Urban Kitchen. Friday the group designed activities and hosted the Bioneers youth mixer. They also had the opportunity to meet with conference presenters one on one for one hour mentoring sessions. The youth documented their experience at the conference with photographs, recorded interviews and journals, which will be incorporated into website in the near future. The youth met each day of the conference to share their learning and experiences.
