At the upcoming 2016 Bioneers conference, Cynthia Brix and Will Keepin (exchanging flowers in the photo above) will share their game-changing work on gender equity & reconciliation. They apply principles of “truth and reconciliation” from South Africa’s post-Apartheid era to advance gender equity. They create a unique forum for people of all genders and sexual orientations to come together safely to speak truth and seek healing.
Will and Cynthia draw a direct parallel between exploitation of the feminine and the exploitation of the Earth, which are deeply interconnected.
I believe it’s one of the truly game-changing breakthroughs afoot today. After decades of environmental and justice work, I’ve concluded that if there’s one single thing that will change everything, it’s supporting the leadership of women and restoring the balance of masculine and feminine qualities inherent in all of us. It allows for blended leadership that values the virtues of both feminine and masculine qualities, and invites the support and partnership of men.
That’s why I’m taking Will and Cynthia’s Gender Equity & Reconciliation training this spring. I want to learn how to bring these ideas and practices more widely into the world. The training is both for professional facilitators and for people like me who want to learn and bring the principles and practices into our own work and lives.
It starts with raising consciousness, and giving people tools to advance the standing, power and leadership of women, and to engage men to help dismantle the patriarchy. Despite their privilege, men also suffer under unjust gender constructs, so they, too, have every reason to change the system.

The training runs from April 23 to April 28th at the beautiful Ghost Ranch in Georgia O’Keefe country in New Mexico. BONUS: there’s a special Bioneers discount if you register by March 15th! And if you love this work and want to get more involved, you can continue with their training program for three more modules (and acquire formal certification).
I have immense gratitude to my wife and partner and Bioneers Co-Founder Nina Simons for illuminating this path almost 20 years ago. In 1997 Nina produced a parallel plenary slate at Bioneers related to Restoring the Balance of the Masculine and Feminine. It proved to be prescient and visionary. It is now foundational to Bioneers. Thank you, Nina!
I hope you will join me at Ghost Ranch for a deep dive into learning how to begin healing the wounds and injustices of gender inequity, and ending violence against women and girls. Be part of the growing network of courageous women and men ending gender injustice, restoring nature, and liberating our full potential as whole human beings and as a civilization.
With Love and Light, Kenny Ausubel
This deeply moving story told by Cynthia Brix will give you a visceral sense of the profound transformation that occurs in Gender Reconciliation trainings. It’s from an interview Kenny Ausubel did with Will and Cynthia for his forthcoming movie, Changing of the Gods: Planetary and Human Revolutions. You may want some hankies handy.
Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury and death for women worldwide between the ages of 15 and 44, a third of all women.
As the authors of the remarkable book Sex and World Peace document, “The physical security of women is strongly associated with the peacefulness of the state.” States with higher levels of gender equality are less likely to rely on military force to settle international disputes – to threaten, display or use force – or go to war once engaged in an intrastate dispute. They’re also less likely to experience domestic conflict.
“States that have improved the status of women are as a rule healthier, wealthier, less corrupt, more democratic, and more powerful on the world stage in the early 21st century,” the authors write.
They conclude: “The primary challenge of the 21st century is to eliminate violence against women and remove the barriers to the development of their strength and creativity and voice. Establishing gender equality in interpersonal relationships, in homes, in the workplace, and in decision-making bodies at all levels will change states and their behaviors, and in turn will bring prosperity and peace to the world.”
They say we need to work for women’s physical security, equity in family law, and parity in the councils of human decision-making. “The true clash of civilizations will not be along the lines envisioned by Samuel Huntington [between Islam and the West] but along the fault lines between civilizations that treat women as equal members of the human species and civilizations that cannot or will not do so.”
Underlying these realities, says social psychologist Alice Eagly, is that “Gender stereotypes trump race stereotypes in every social science test.”
According to philosopher Sylviane Agacinski: “It is always the difference of the sexes that serves as a model for all other differences, and the male/female hierarchy that is taken as a metaphor for all inter-ethnic hierarchies.”
