Stephen’s original passion in life is that of music. While studying classical and flamenco guitar in Italy and Spain, Stephen worked abroad on a certified organic olive grove and vineyard. This experience, along with seeing The 11th Hour, shifted his focus from music theory and composition to ecological awareness and sustainability. Stephen changed his academic focus to Ecological Design and Green Business Management which then prompted him to work on various sustainable restorative food system projects throughout Hawai’i. While in Hawai’i Stephen also became the Legislative Liaison for the State Farmers Union. This position entailed collaborating with county and state officials on current issues regarding farmland designation, public and commercial water rights as well as informing members on new regulatory changes in state and county planning. Stephen has also worked as an Environmental Compliance Specialist and Research Writer within the U.S. National Park Concession industry collaborating alongside officials from the Department of the Interior and the EPA in assessing and reviewing environmental impacts while implementing best management practices and environmental tracking systems.
One of Stephen’s main passions has been to educate younger generations on the importance of caring for our environment and how their actions can have a positive impact on the local ecology. This passion came after Stephen received an Environmental Activism Award issued by the Minister of the Environment and Labor in Canada for bettering the community. This experience and accomplishment gave Stephen the drive to inform youths about improving their natural ecological systems through participator education. Stephen’s passion for the environment along with his background in sustainable design and development focusing heavily on agricultural systems and community planning has allowed him to incorporate this expertise into Regenerative Education which focuses on responding to environmental challenges.
