This year, Bioneers welcomes new development officer Riley Leonard. Riley grew up in the Bioneers community, having attended the annual conference for many years, many times as a youth scholarship recipient.
As Riley pursued environmental science in her studies, she was continually faced with the increasingly daunting facts about the state of our earth. She, and many of her peers, felt defeated before they had even had an opportunity to make a difference.
Attending Bioneers has been an annual enlightenment for Riley, a place where tangible solutions and changemakers are presented in a way that alleviates the feeling of defeat she found in her studies. To say Bioneers has had an effect on Riley’s vision and goals for her future is an understatement. Riley’s drive to participate in environmental solutions stems from the many weekends she spent at the Bioneers Conference.
In college, she played an integral role in starting both an environmental education nonprofit (Sprout Up) and an apparel company that fundraises for nonprofits (OneSkater). Sprout Up has grown from one classroom to teaching over 5,000 elementary students annually, and is entirely run by college students. Her apparel company, OneSkater, raises thousands of dollars each year for select nonprofits through targeted campaigns.
Riley joins us now after recently working on the Ecological & Environmental Sciences development team at UC Santa Barbara. She is excited to put her passion for Bioneers into her work, to continue the growth of Bioneers’ many programs, and to share the transformative Bioneers experience with anyone who will listen!
