Our misbegotten industrial food system is one of our greatest vulnerabilities: dangerously fossil fueled, toxic, monocultural, and insanely centralized. Fortunately, the countervailing locavore movement is spreading rapidly, and it will increasingly become a matter of survival and resilience in the face of radical environmental disruptions. Michael Pollan has been at the forefront of advancing a far more decentralized, diverse, locally self-reliant food system. He has the rare gift of being able to shift our perception those subtle few degrees that reveal the world anew.

“We need to wean this American food system off its heavy twentieth-century diet of fossil fuels and put it back on a diet of contemporary sunshine… because solar food is healthier than fossil fuel food in terms of climate change and energy.” ~ Michael Pollan
