Here are more quotes from enthusiastic participants in the Cultivating Women's Leadership intensives...
- “I have greater clarity about and confidence in my own leadership style. I no longer am thrown into doubt so easily when I encounter or interact with people in my field who have a very different approach than I do. The training helped me to envision and answer to calls I feel within me to be open to dream big and act on it. Including if that means bringing certain forms of heart and spirit in my professional world of policy advocacy, legal work, and human rights education.”
- “I hold myself with a greater capacity for purpose, self-knowing, self care, personal responsibility and commitment to my best.”
- “The CWL intensive really allowed me to anchor in my belief in myself as a leader.”
- “I am in touch with the essence of the model of leadership, which I am beginning to embody, which incorporates both my strengths and my vulnerabilities. I am connecting more deeply with most people that I come into contact with.”
- “I learned the true meaning behind community: the coming together, sharing, dividing, respecting, validating, sustaining and power within groups. I will take this back with me to continue to weave our world together. I also learned the true meaning of context: to not try to detour or be oblivious (in our desire to reach the destination) to the trail of tears we must walk through together –everyone – and to keep humility and honesty and sensitivity up front at all times.”
- “It is a rare and powerful gift to witness and experience the deep interplay of inner and outer life related to leadership and particularly the unique callings and opportunities for women leaders in these times.”
- “One of the most worthwhile steps I have taken to becoming a leader in my own life, my community, my family, and my job.”
- “I have been to many conferences, seminars, and workshops in my lifetime, and this retreat was the most valuable in that it really focused on women's leadership and what that should look like on a very personal basis, and how to get the best from others by being a good leader. I have already begun to use what I've learned to teach my students at the University to also be good leaders, and what good leadership looks like.”
- “Both a personal and professional exploration that doesn't end at the closing circle. I continue to expand the insights gained, appreciate the input from my fellow participants, and savor the moments of deep connection.”
- “I was inspired to rethink my own leadership and the wonderful changes I could make from my own small village to making a global difference.”
- “Before the training, I must admit that I did not really get it, just how much the inner informed the outer, but now it is so undeniably abundantly clear, that I can hardly remember how I could have possibly thought any differently. I feel it in my bones, now, it is part of my way of being. How such profound transformation could happen in a week, I could never have imagined!”

Professional Changes as a Result of the Training...
- “Like they say, when it rains it pours, and the training grounded me for the downpour of opportunities that have come up in the last year since my CWL experience. This year has been an explosion of advancement; I have developed projects and had opportunities for sharing with all ages, and progressed with the larger vision of my work in ways I had not imagined happening for years. Here are some of the highlights:
- I lead a one day permaculture workshop to a group of over 50 children and adults in northern NM that came together within a matter of just a couple of weeks.
- I have found a location and am scheduling permaculture summer camps and workshops for young families, children, and education professionals
- I have contracts with 3 schools, with students that range from kindergarten through university level: UNM Sustainability Studies Program has invited me to submit a syllabus for a 400 level topics course in permaculture. Two International Baccalaureate charter schools have invited me to incorporate permaculture into their curriculums. I believe the inner work at CWL played a huge role in the explosion of opportunity for my work. I am incredibly grateful!”
- “What I learned at CWL helped me to be more authentic in how I interact with colleagues, and to believe that simplicity and empowerment are essential aspects of the sustainability movement. So I've been more vocal and recognized in the male dominated circles of the local sustainability movement.”
- “I feel that because my presence is so much more internally grounded, those I work with seem to understand me more clearly and trust my intentions and actions.” “I more readily identify as a leader (in the collaborative sense) at my main workplace, largely because of the communication skills I was able to hone at CWL. Something shifted for me in my other activist pursuits - I feel much more centered and powerful about what I can offer and achieve.”
Why CWL & Why Now?
- “It is an invaluable opportunity to step away from the pressures and grind of everyday work and life, and enter a space in which you can ask yourself deeply what is your purpose on this earth, and what are the ways you can more effectively enable yourself to walk toward that purpose. It is also a chance to connect deeply with a wide diversity of women who are passionate about the work they are doing in the world. You will emerge with a stronger sense of self, and amazing new network of supportive women leaders--each in her own way, and some concrete tools to take back to use in your own leadership.”
- “I highly recommend this retreat as a way to access your deepest knowing about your power as a woman leader, to encourage and enhance your natural strengths as a leader in a community of other visionary women, and to challenge you to reach past what you think is possible for yourself and your work.”
- “If you want to set aside several days that are JUST FOR YOU, just for your relationship with yourself, as the leader of your own life - do this workshop. You are invited into a safe, loving, supportive, creative, spirited and kind space - full of potential; surrounded by women seeking similar objectives. It is skillfully and intuitively facilitated, full of in-depth exploration of inner purpose, patterns, and behaviors. Tools and exercises are offered that translate seamlessly into your personal leadership roles once you are back in the 'real world'. There is no limit to the transformation and awareness building that is available to you through this workshop. It is only a beginning.”
- “I hummed and hawed before signing up for CWL. I told myself I wasn't accomplished enough and that I would feel out of place. Wow, I couldn't have been more wrong! Through CWL I learned about my unique leadership skills and I reframed what leadership means to me. I was able to completely let go and deeply explore my selfimage and life purpose, all the while bonding with an incredible group of truly beautiful women. CWL changed my life forever.”
- “I learned to listen to myself, and love myself. I learned how to turn off the you-aren’t-good-enough inner voices. I am taking away coherence, focus, lightness of being, skills I need, and great optimism for my next stage.”
- “I think the women who would most benefit from CWL are women who don't consider themselves leaders or haven't awakened to how powerful they really are to create change in their own lives. Because when they take the course they will understand that they are powerful, and not only that they can be leaders but that it's absolutely essential that they do so. I would recommend it to my mother, my sister, and all my friends, especially those who've never considered putting their name and the word "leader" in the same sentence.”
