Biomimicry Institute and Bioneers Present

Biomimicry’s Climate-Change Solutions: How Would Nature Do It?

This landmark one-day intensive reveals the leading edge of biomimetic solutions to climate change, modeled on nature’s operating instructions. It’s designed for action-oriented professionals from the fields of business, finance and investment, science, technology, public policy, education, media and civil society.

Biomimicry is based on the premise that nature has done everything human beings want to do, but without destroying the biosphere or mortgaging our future. The emerging science of Biomimicry, “innovation inspired by nature,” may well be the single most important field of science capable of actually solving problems on the scale of climate change, while making the successful transition to a truly sustainable civilization. Its rapid adoption and advancement are imperative over the next decade.

The basic question Biomimicry asks: How would nature do it? By posing that question, these remarkable biomimics have invented startling breakthrough solutions. All are already in play, most in the commercial realm. Our speakers will include biomimicry scientists, entrepreneurs from biomimicry companies and leading educators.

Successive panels will address interconnected, systemic approaches, including:

• Bio-inspired Energy Efficiency and Green Building: Wind turbines, fans, fog harvesters, lightweight structures,
ecological performance standards
• Bio-inspired Alternative Energy: Mimicking photosynthesis
• Bio-inspired Carbon Fixation: CO2 fixed into biodegradable plastics and building materials
• Bio-inspired Biofuels: Topsoil-to-topsoil systems
• Policy, Investment and Social Change: What society needs to do

Keynote addresses by:

Janine Benyus, founder of Biomimicry Institute and author of Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature, the landmark book in the field. She’ll reveal relevant findings of her new book-in-progress, Nature’s 100 Best.

David Orr, Chair of Environmental Studies at Oberlin, a leader in the field of ecological design and the Presidential Climate Action Project.
