The People's March for Peace, Equality, Jobs and Justice commemorates the 44th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It is sponsored by The Peace and Justice Coalition, a grassroots coalition of more than 120 organizations representing social, economic, racial, health and environmental justice organizations; antiwar groups; workers', civil, and human rights organizations; military and Gold Star families, war resisters; and the voices of labor, immigrants, gay/lesbian/bi-/trans, indigenous, and other oppressed peoples.

We are marching on August 25 in Newark, New Jersey, a city that has been severely impacted by the Iraq war not just because of cuts in social spending but because of the Newark youth who have died in the occupation of Iraq.

Congressman John Conyers is the keynote speaker, and a festival will follow the march, with speakers, music, poetry, vendors, and information tables.

We will meet at noon at Lincoln Park and Broad Street in Newark, march to Military Park, and return to Lincoln Park. This is intended to be a mass mobilization drawing from not just New Jersey, but the surrounding states as well.
