By attaching a greenhouse/solarium to a home it will solar heat the home, improve air quality and provide produce to the family! I built my first one in the four corners area back in the days of Jimmy Carter. I am presently building a 10 X 40 that will be my main source of heat next winter. After it has proven itself I will be selling and building more for whoever wants them. The present model is framed with red wood (new growth of course)2x6 with a polycarbonate glazing. Thermal mass is provided by 16 55 gallon plastic barrels of water plus stone and masonary. The design optimizes the winter solar gain and aides in summer cooling. Presenty the first bach of tomatoes are still green but doing nicely! This is my first day as a Bioneer and proud to be part of the team
Great Idea
It sounds like you have something that could make a difference for a lot of people. I think you would enjoy Anna Eddy's book Solviva . She has some great ideas along the lines you are taking about that will work for people in cloudy areas. You may also enjoy my friend's blog about his micro-farm and his families attempts to produce more of their own energy and food. Check it out at http://robertsroost-alan.blogspot.com . Keep posting how things are progressing.
