Why Now?
We’re here and we’re ready. More than 550 schools and communities across Canada and the United States signed up and are ready to take action to stop the climate crisis. Global warming has brought modern society to a crossroads that will determine the fate of humanity. The Canadian Government has begun to undo years of progress on global warming and Canada is far behind in meeting its Kyoto objectives. Now all of us have a choice. Do we take the easy road of half-measures and compromise or do we stand up to the fossil fuel industry and give our planet a fighting chance for a bright future beyond the climate crisis? The time is now to join together and demand a clean energy future!

Why a Week?
In the past, climate activists have focused efforts for one Day of Action, such as Fossil Fools Day or Energy Independence Day. This time we gave ourselves a week to tell our stories of global warming, to build momentum in our campaigns, and to show the true size of our movement for change. North America’s youth are calling for five days of demonstrations to jumpstart the second semester of the Campus Climate Challenge on campuses and put the heat on a new US Congress and the coalition government in Canada to begin an aggressive national power shift on global warming.

Why Action?
It’s simple. When it counts, actions speak louder than words. We have one week to step it up and chart a course for the future we want to live in.

A THEME FOR EACH DAY
Showing the Truth on campus is just a first step for participating in this week of action. The goal of the week is to Rise to the Climate Challenge. What that looks like on campus is up to you, but our coalition partners have offered five potent themes to frame each day during the week of action:

Monday January 29th, A vision for our campuses
Tuesday January 30th, A vision for our communities
Wednesday January 31st, A vision for our mountains
Thursday February 1st, A vision for our Congress
Friday February 2nd, A vision for our future
