The program for the current Bioneer's conference is about 92 pages long, with glossy covers and color printing. I have no idea how many copies were printed, several thousand at least. I attended the satellite TV session in Taos and although I could not attend all the sessions, I cannot begin to count the number of times we were told that the "corporate paper companies" were responsible for the loss of countless trees used to make paper, for us. I urge the management of Bioneers to consider a less paper intensive program so that we save some of the remaining trees that were mentioned so many times in the conference. I suggest that it is the customers and paper consumers that are ultimately responsible for the loss of the trees that get cut down for paper products. Even if the program was printed on "re-cycled" paper, it added to the collective use of paper which leads to the loss of the trees Bioneers seek to save.
There is another brochure/program that could be consolidated or eliminated as well. It is smaller, about 20 pages long, full color, heavy duty paper covers front and back with color photos and a fold out feature. I wonder how many copies of this were printed? Many more thousands of pages that will likely end up in the landfill.
I expect more attention to ecological detail from this organization.

Thanks.
amazing effort by bioneers
I've attended 6 Bioneers conferences over the years including the one that just ended, and I've got to say they put on an AMAZING event. You may not like that they use a paper catalog, but I've actually kept mine throughout the years. They have great bio's on the speakers and turn out to be a great resource.
Also, what you may not be able to see from the satalite sites, is the waste/recycling stations they have set up in the main conference. They not only have a bin for recycling, compost, paper, and trash, but they also have a volunteer AT EVERY STATION to help you in case you're confused...
The food booths are also providing recyclable plates & utensils. It's truly an awesome event, through & through.
Until I can upload the catalog to my pda or something like it, I think they're doing the best job possible...
