Development Manager – San Francisco, CA

Bioneers seeks a Development Manager who will engage in all areas of development, including donor stewardship and management, foundation and grant management, fundraising campaigns, sponsorship and in-kind donation management, special events and data management.

The successful candidate for this position will be creative, flexible, openminded, and interested in fundraising to support meaningful change work in the nonprofit world. Being a selfstarter is an absolute must for this position, with a strong desire and will to continue learning and improving with excellent collaborative team skills.

This is a full-time position based out of Bioneers headquarters, located in The Presidio, San Francisco.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of current fundraising best practices.
  • Experience in implementing and organizing development systems and processes for donations, grants, sponsorships, and in-kind opportunities.
  • Proficiency in using CRM (SalesForce) to analyze, advocate and advise strategies relationship building held by the Co-Founders, Executive Team and Board of Bioneers.
  • Experience supervising support staff.

Essential Functions:

Donor Stewardship and Management:

  • Steward and direct the Gift Cycle and Process, manage high level donor acknowledgement, and

maintain and grow the Monthly Donor program.

  • Plan, oversee and execute donor cultivation and acknowledgment events.
  • Oversee Major Donor research, proposal and report writing, and tracking – start to finish.
  • Oversee general administrative duties that support the Development Department stewardship activities.

Foundation and Grant Management

  • Project management of Foundations and Grant cycles, including overseeing deadline and requirements tracking, and assisting with proposal and report writing.

Fundraising Campaigns

  • Plan, oversee and execute fundraising campaigns throughout the year.

Sponsorship and In-Kind Donation Management

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan and process for sponsorships and in-kind donations in support of the organization, programs, and annual conference.

Executive Team Upward Management

  • Consult with CEO and ED on development, grants, fundraising strategies and plans and develop a year-round plan to support upwards management.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan, events, including a monthly plan Donor Stewardship fundraising campaign, sponsorship campaigns and in-kind donation schedule.
  • Generate, gather and share regular online and offline donations channel reports to the Executive Team monthly, provide information related to income sources and trends to support the strategic planning and activities of the Development Team.

Board Management

  • Provide up to date development related information as requested and oversee materials fulfillment as needed.

Intersectionality Work with Communications and Marketing, Program-Centric Priorities and Conference Production

  • Develop content, message and branding for all Development related communications for online presence, media production, marketing materials, e-newsletter, and produce and work closely with the Communications department to co-manage the quarterly Inside Track e-newsletter and development related monthly, quarterly and End-Of-Year campaigns.
  • Collaborate with program directors and managers to define and implement a system for year-round outreach, identify and manage in-kind and sponsorship needs and priorities, and gather content from programs to include in the e-newsletter, board meetings and grant reports.
  • Manage strategy and process for VIP and Development-related events in and around our annual conference including bottom-line support for managing outreach, planning, logistics, and on-site management to ensure impeccable donor experience.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in in fundraising, marketing, sales, business, public relations, annual, corporate or foundation giving which includes experience in budgeting, and supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of relationship-building fundraising experience with an emphasis on personal solicitation of annual, major and planned gifts.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of current fundraising best practices.
  • Proficiency in using CRM (SalesForce) to analyze, advocate and advise strategies relationship building held by the Co-Founders, Executive Team and Board of Bioneers.
  • Experience in implementing and organizing development systems and processes for donations, grants, and in-kind opportunities.
  • Demonstrated comfort and experience with identifying, cultivating, closing, and stewarding significant gifts ($20,000+).
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with Executive Team leadership in developing fundraising strategies and plans/metrics to meet fundraising goals.
  • Strong relationship and public relations management.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of Bioneers mission and programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Salesforce Database management experience essential.
  • Excellent computer and research skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in various formats.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service.
  • Ability to take direction and feedback and put it into practice.

Reporting:

This position reports to the Executive Director. This person will supervise the Development Assistant and volunteers at the annual conference.

 Working Conditions:

This position is full-time and located at Bioneers HQ in The Presidio, San Francisco. We work in a shared and open work environment. Physical Requirements: At the Annual Conference hours are long and Development Manager will need to be able to get to and from multiple locations on site quickly and may be required to be on their feet for long periods of time.
