POST-CONFERENCE INTENSIVE

The Apollo Alliance presents, in alliance with 1Sky, Energy Action Coalition and Green For All: Green-Collar Jobs: Advocacy and Implementation

Monday, October 19, 2009
9am – 5pm

A one-day intensive for: government; business; labor; social justice, community, and youth advocates; and professionals committed to putting the United States on the path to a clean energy, good-jobs economy and broadly shared economic prosperity. We’ll hear from national green-collar job experts, explore case studies and best practices from around the country, and participate in focused workshops led by top professionals in the field.

Topics will include: stakeholder engagement, coalition building, creating pathways out of poverty, stimulus implementation, affecting policy, and more.

Featuring:

Jerome Ringo, President of the Apollo Alliance, who worked for more than 20 years in Louisiana’s petrochemical industry and became the first African American to head a major conservation organization as chair of the National Wildlife Federation.

  • Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, longtime working families advocate and now CEO of Green For All, a national organization founded by Van Jones, dedicated to building an inclusive green economy strong enough to resolve the ecological crisis and lift people out of poverty.
  • Kate Gordon, Co-Director of the Apollo Alliance, with a long history working on: economic justice, labor, energy, tax policy, rural development, employee and consumer rights, tenant organizing and housing advocacy.
  • Billy Parish, renowned youth activist, co-founder of the Energy Action Coalition, which brought together over 40 diverse, youth-led organizations into a joint campaign, The Campus Climate Challenge.
  • Gillian Caldwell, Campaign Director for 1Sky, a filmmaker and attorney with thirty years’ experience advocating for social justice in the U.S. and around the world.
  • Ian Kim, Green-Collar Jobs Campaign Director at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, and co-convener of Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums’ Green Economy Task Force.
