Reporter
SHOWCASE THEATER - Saturday, October 16, 2010
4:30 pm
This 2009 Sundance selection with actor/director/activist Ben
Affleck as executive producer is an examination of New York Times
Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Nicholas D. Kristof and the crisis in
journalism today and its current massive transformation. Reporter shows us the importance
of real news gathering in enabling democratic nations to function and
illuminating a world in chaos.
Tracking Kristof as he traveled to report
on the conflict and desperate poverty during the summer of 2007 to the
Congo, he attempts to put this crisis on the international radar, as he
did with his articles on Darfur. The film immerses us in a discussion
of the ways this kind of reportage reaches the public, effects change,
and creates a humanitarian response to the future of ideas.
Special Guests: Director Eric Daniel Metzgar , with writer Joseph Jon Lanthier from Slant Magazine
