Honoring Bioneers

Celebrating 20 years of meaningful work and 10 years making Marin County its Home

Whereas, Bioneers was founded in 1990 by Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons to promote practical and visionary solutions for restoring people and our planet; and

Whereas, for 20 years, Bioneers has convened a pre-eminent annual forum where social and scientific innovators focus on breakthrough solutions inspired by nature’s genius and human creativity; and

Whereas, Bioneers held it conference at the Marin Center in 1999 and has hosted its event annually for 10 years since, gathering over 3,000 people each year to foster networks, cross-pollination of ideas, synergy and community; and

Whereas, Bioneers has gathered many of the world’s leading-edge innovators who work tirelessly to seek and implement solutions to our planet’s most threatening social and environmental challenges; and

Whereas, Bioneers has worked to inform, inspire and celebrate numerous organizations and institutions throughout the County of Marin to help support the County government’s work to implement positive change on environmental and sustainability issues; and

Whereas, Bioneers has educated millions through its award-winning radio series and other media that reach people across the country and around the world; and

Whereas, through its ineffable ability to prompt passionate, purposeful action, Bioneers has given the people of Marin the gift of a front row seat as well as a window into a multitude of creative solutions for reimagining our future. In turn, Marin has answered the Bioneers call with resolute, sustained action restoring and reinvigorating our human and natural systems.

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin commends Bioneers for its collective and extraordinary commitment to environmental and social restoration.

Be it further resolved that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin thanks Bioneers for making Marin its home and for bringing the Marin community and people all over the world together to work toward a healthier future for all people, all creatures and our precious planet.

Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Marin held this 13^th day of October 2009.
